Ekphrasis

I've been investigating the etymology of Ekphrasis, and the best I can come up with is this: Ek (Greek for out), and phrasis (to speak; or, phratto). So, a sort of speaking in response to something out there, i.e., art? Not the nicest, neatest derivation.

party woo.

Or, in more direct terms, "expression."

I'm so glad you posted this. About a month ago I had the most embarrassing moment with my 223 class. I had explained the etymology for the word "metaphor" the week before. Then we were talking about ekphrasis & all I could come up with was "...from the Greek!" I did some googling later on but couldn't find anything. I was beginning to think it was an academic made-up word. Thanks, Toochi.
